Why is it important to ensure my dog is microchipped?

Microchipping is a great way to ensure that your cat or dog can be identified. Collars and tags can fall off, which makes it impossible to determine who they belong to. Microchipping will allow veterinary clinics, shelters, and animal control officers to quickly identify your dog/cat or and access your contact information.

How does a microchip work and is it safe?

Microchipping is safe and does not have any harmful side effects. The microchip houses radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, which has a number that is individual to your dog or cat. The microchip does not contain tracking information or GPS locating technology. It does not directly contain any of your personal information.Using a special RFID scanner, the number can be accessed and looked up in the microchip database. It is important to keep the contact information registered to the microchip current, so your cat or dog can be returned home quickly.

Will the microchip irritate my dog or cat’s skin?

Typically after its insertion, your dog or cat likely won’t even notice the microchip. The only pain your dog or cat should feel is the initial injection of the microchip. The process is similar to when a vaccine is given but a larger needle is used. They shouldn’t feel the microchip after it has been implanted.
