Urinalysis

Urinalysis for Cats & Dogs

Urinalysis is a diagnostic test we use to assess urine. Urine helps us determine the health of vital organs like the kidneys and the urinary system. We collect urine samples using sterile needles, catheters or as your dog or cat urinates. We perform urinalysis on-site at our in-house laboratory. If you have questions about urinalysis, please contact us at 306-373-3500.

What do you assess urine for?

There are certain key elements of a urinalysis that provide us with vital information about your cat or dog’s health. Dogs and cats who are 8 years old and older should have a urinalysis at least once per year. We examine the urine sample’s colour, clarity, concentration, pH levels and protein levels. Some of the following symptoms would require your dog or cat to need a urinalysis:

  • Dehydration
  • Increased water intake
  • Frequent urination
  • Blood in urine
